Learn the basics of creating with metal clay. Metal clays are clays imbued with metal that can be sculpted, stamped or molded and then the clay is burned off and you are left with a beautiful metal piece. Use easy to use pattern sheets, stamps, molds and cutters to make individualized metal components for pendants, earrings and mixed media creations. Learn basic techniques for finishes before and after firing. Firing of your pieces is included in the class. Pieces can be picked up the following weekend or your can take the patina class to learn more finishing techniques. Clay (100 grams) and tools are provided with the class. You will need to pay $27 cash per package for the clay to the instructor on the day of the class. There will also be optional tool kits to purchase ($25) from the instructor if you wish to continue playing at home. :). While everyone makes different sized pieces, one package of the clay will make about 10 "average" sized pieces to use for a necklace, earrings or bracelet. The registration deadline for this class is one week before the class. This is so materials can be ordered. If you cancel after this date you will still need to pay the instructor for the materials she purchases. There is a minimum of three students for this class.
It is recommended that you take the patina class also to learn more finishing techniques but it is not required.
